Excellent idea. The first xjw book I read came from the library. It was Barbara Harrison's "Visions of Glory" and in retrospect I think it prepared me for Crisis of Conscience in that it gave a glimpse behind the curtain that CoC ripped down entirely.

by lfcviking ini've heard a few posts on this forum suggesting the wt society has its own 'secret' team of people who lurk on this site for information purposes but also to identify individuals who have left the org and become 'apostate' and are actively working/campaigning against the wt society.
can anybody here verify this?

Why would they want to? Because of the it's best to keep your friends close but your enemies closer logic. That would be a good reason if they were doing it but I have doubts if there is a systematic spy network keeping watch here. Individuals poking around to see what dirt they can dig up and perhaps find someone they know...absolutely.

They were definitely baptists. They even had it embroidered on their shirts. And yes, absolutely it was fire & brimstone forever and ever hell. amen. I couldn't help but laugh a little all the way through this 'cause now it's pretty easy to spot lame attempts to "win you over" no matter where they come from. I've been praised by HareKrishna's, Jehovah's Witnesses, Telemarketers and now even Baptists. lol They ALL want something from you. -

I started not to answer but opened the door anyway. Nice enough people and so full of compliments. "It's such a nice quiet area you live in. Blah, blah, blah." Of course it quickly turned to religious talk and many of my comments garnered comebacks such as "We don't often meet people that think so deeply about things." Meanwhile I'm thinking "I sure could use some more of that potted meat."
I actually did mention that I had been brought up as a Jehovah's Witness. It got a little more serious then. The compliments still came often enough but also warnings of the dire consequences that await me for turning away from their message. "What if you're wrong?" the one guy asked. Why do they always play up the FEAR? Then came the inevitable suggestion that he stop back by to discuss things further. I quickly declined that offer.
That was when those really odd feelings showed up. I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about. You kind of start shaking and feel like you're being tracked, hunted or worse...recruited! AHHHHHHHHHHHH. But in the end they left after I had been warned again that if I didn't do things their way I'd burn in HELL forevvvvvvvvvverrrrrrrrrrr heated by fire & brimstone. All eternity and then some. You'd think propane might be a little more efficient. Damn those Baptists!
So there you have it. I'm doomed. Like I didn't already know that! lol
I did learn from this conversation that one of my neighbors a few houses down is an EXJW and attends these peoples church. We'll see what happens but I bet that neighbor comes around to introduce himself soon.
I suppose I should brush up on the HELL brush off logic though. Anybody know where I could find some light reading on the subject? -

Im on pins and needles.

I had to fire somebody this morning
by littlerockguy init had been coming.
i hired an employee last year out of desperation since medical transcriptionist in this area are extremely hard to find.
this person had experience and had been employed at one place for a long time so i thought i would give this person a try.

I've worked with some real winners too. The warehouse guys that had cubbyholes hidden in the upper shelves so they could hide out, nap, smoke etc. Yeah, smoke. In a warehouse full of paper & cardboard. Bloody brilliant they were. They would move there hiding places every so often so as to avoid detection. This only came to light after they were fired for other stupid crap.
The guy that used company time and materials to do outside work. Cheated on the time clock continually. Was one of those that complained about how much he did but in reality didn't do. Everyone knew and complained but nothing got done so I told the owner that it seemed like I was the only one that had a problem with it so it was best if I left. Ten minutes later the guy was unemployed. Who knew ;)
People expressed doubts that we could get by without him. Yeah, right. I had to step up a little but that was ok. So now I even donate a little time on occasion. Not often mind you but now and then. The perfect frickin' little employee. ;(
